Kayaking at Sungei Jelutong with the Marine Conservation Group, Nature Society (Singapore): 13 Jun (Sat) and 14 Jun (Sun)

As one of the most interesting mangrove rivers in Singapore, Sungei Jelutong is a gem in the heart of rustic Pulau Ubin. Come, join us for a leisurely 1-hour guided paddle where our volunteer guides will share interesting facts on the flora and fauna along the river, the importance of our coastal forests, and what we can do to conserve them. This trip is suitable for both adults and children.

Date: 13 Jun (Sat) and 14 Jun (Sun)
Time: Each trip will last 1.5 hours including safety briefing.
Meeting point: The kayak launching station is located next to Jelutong bridge which is about 1 km away from Volunteer Hub, map.

Cost: $20 per person (to cover cost of equipment rental and logistics handling). Any proceeds received, will be donated to Nature Society (Singapore) for conservation efforts.

What to bring?

• Sun protection (hats, long sleeve clothing)
• Sufficient drinking water
• Snacks
• Change of clothes (will get wet!)
• Wear proper covered footwear (strictly NO slippers or sandals)

Things to note:

• Please note that there will be NO safe area to leave your bags or personal belongings. Therefore, please be prepared to bring your bags onto the kayaks with you, and waterproof them, as they will get WET.
• Please note that there are NO toilets / changing facilities available at the kayak launching point. Toilets are only available at Ubin Village / Main Jetty
• Please be on time. As we are running the trips back to back, we apologise that we cannot wait for late-comers and have to launch our kayaks on time and depart every hour.
• Do plan your ferry ride early and hop over to Pulau Ubin and take a leisurely 30 minutes walk to Jelutong Bridge.
• It is necessary that you provide your contact no. and email address so that we can acknowledge your booking and send you a booking confirmation.
• Cancellation: As this is a charity event, we seek your understanding that there will be no refunds once sold. In the event of bad weather, departure timings may be delayed.

The Big Coastal Clean Up - Kayak Expedition by Adventurepaddlers: 13 Jun (Sat) and 14 Jun (Sun)

The Big Coastal Clean Up is a worthy event organized by Adventurepaddlers where our heartland community can contribute to the preservation of Ubin's unique charms through a kayak expedition along its enchanting shoreline.

Marine litter is an environmental, economic, health and aesthetic problem. Promoting environmental awareness, this eco trip will allow you to observe, gather and properly dispose marine waste which will otherwise cause prolong habitat destruction to our ecosystem.

Come experience the kampung spirit. What better way than to cruise down the scenic waterway into the heart of our very own Ubin Island.

(Tongs and trash bags will be provided during the event.)

Reforestation at Pulau Ubin with Ubin NParks: 14 Jun (Sun)

Be a part of the reforestation at Pulau Ubin. Come join us and give our forests a helping hand! Plant our native trees at Puaka East on Ubin Day.

Each group (maximum of 15 persons) will be allocated 8 trees to plant. Maximum 6 groups per session.

Some tips:

• Please be in comfortable attire and covered shoes. 
• Bring your water bottle and a hat. 
• Optional items like camera, sun screen lotion and insect repellent, snacks (if needed), etc are encouraged. 
• Have a good breakfast/lunch and take note that you might get dirty!

Chek Jawa Boardwalk Guided Tour with Ubin NParks volunteers: 14 Jun (Sun)

Join us for a tour to discover and learn about Chek Jawa's six ecosystems and the diverse array of animals that inhabits these unique habitats.

Guided tours are conducted to celebrate Ubin Day. The free guided tour will be cover the 1.1km boardwalk and Jejawi Tower with experienced guides.

Open to all ages, children under the age of 13 to be under parental/guardian guidance. Maximum 45 persons.

Kampong Tour with Ubin NParks volunteers: 13 Jun (Sat) and 14 Jun (Sun)

Take a walk with us to experience Ubin's wonderful natural and cultural heritage. The 2.2km trail takes about 2 hours to complete. The tour will start at the Ubin-HSBC Volunteer Hub and take you through the spice trees around Jelutong campsite, Butterfly Hill, Pekan Quarry, Sensory Trail Ponds, Kampong House, Old Bin Kiang School site, Toa Pek Kong Temple and end at the Wayang Stage.

You will hear about the use of spices in cooking and the interesting history of the different sites. Do you know what the Ubin-HSBC Volunteer Hub was in the 1970s? When was the Toa Pek Kong Temple built? If you would like to know, then this is an excellent introduction to the heritage of the island.

Open to all ages, children under the age of 13 to be under parental/guardian guidance. Maximum 45 participants.

Celebrate Ubin's Singapore Specials with SOSD: 13 Jun (Sat) and 14 Jun (Sun)

SG50 represents the little red dot that we’ve come to know as home. It celebrates the Singaporean spirit, signifying that our dreams are not limited by the physical size of our island nation.

In an even smaller dot within this little red dot called Pulau Ubin, community dogs have made it their home. They exemplify the kampung spirit, and live the "Ubin Way" of life, in no way limited by the physical size of this little island.

Come celebrate 50 of Ubin's Singapore Specials on this special Ubin Day! Say hello to the friendly Ubin Kampong Dogs, who are regarded by residents and visitors alike as ambassadors of this island.

Learn more about SOSD's efforts in Ubin for the past 10 months : Project SOUND (Sterilisation of Ubin and Neighbouring Dogs) seeks to trap-neuter-release-manage dogs from Ubin and neighbouring fishfarms. SOSD also rescues and evacuates dogs requiring emergency treatment against silent killers such as heartworm, tick fever and other serious injuries.

Also, join in our "KDog Photo Challenge"! Just Snap-Caption-Hashtag-Post-on-Instagram any photo taken in Ubin, on Ubin Day, with at least one KDog (short for “Kampung Dog” or Ubin Singapore Special) in the photo. Top 2 winners stand a chance to win a limited edition SOSD cashcard and waterbottle but more importantly, the Ubin KDogs get to shine in your work of art.

Stargazing with the NUS Astronomical Society and Marine Parade Astronomy Club: 14 Jun (Sun)

See the true beauty of the night sky! The dark skies of Pulau Ubin has less light pollution and thus allow us to better gaze at the stars.

Using their telescopes, the NUS Astronomical Society and Marine Parade Astronomy Club (MPAstro) will point out to you popular astronomical objects visible from Singapore. Also learn about astrophotography, that is, how to photograph these astronomical objects. Gain a new appreciation for a dark sky site like Pulau Ubin!

Everyone of all ages are welcomed!

Bumboats for night activities (Just for Ubin Day!) Arrangements have been made for a bumboat (or two) to be available for your travel back to the mainland. They will charge $40 per boat ($3.30 per person for 12 persons) instead of $30 per boat. With only one or two bumboats, it may take a while to transport a large group back to the mainland. Thank you for your patience!

Learn all about the fascinating and beautiful creatures that live in Ubin's beaches and mangroves, as well as the dangers that trash poses to these animals. The ICCS booth will feature specimens of marine life, and will be accompanied by a mini-gameshow to show participants the extent of trash that lines our beaches! Find out what this trash mainly comprises of, and how we can change our daily habits into more sustainable ones.
