Kayaking at Sungei Jelutong with the Marine Conservation Group, Nature Society (Singapore): 13 Jun (Sat) and 14 Jun (Sun)

As one of the most interesting mangrove rivers in Singapore, Sungei Jelutong is a gem in the heart of rustic Pulau Ubin. Come, join us for a leisurely 1-hour guided paddle where our volunteer guides will share interesting facts on the flora and fauna along the river, the importance of our coastal forests, and what we can do to conserve them. This trip is suitable for both adults and children.

Date: 13 Jun (Sat) and 14 Jun (Sun)
Time: Each trip will last 1.5 hours including safety briefing.
Meeting point: The kayak launching station is located next to Jelutong bridge which is about 1 km away from Volunteer Hub, map.

Cost: $20 per person (to cover cost of equipment rental and logistics handling). Any proceeds received, will be donated to Nature Society (Singapore) for conservation efforts.

What to bring?

• Sun protection (hats, long sleeve clothing)
• Sufficient drinking water
• Snacks
• Change of clothes (will get wet!)
• Wear proper covered footwear (strictly NO slippers or sandals)

Things to note:

• Please note that there will be NO safe area to leave your bags or personal belongings. Therefore, please be prepared to bring your bags onto the kayaks with you, and waterproof them, as they will get WET.
• Please note that there are NO toilets / changing facilities available at the kayak launching point. Toilets are only available at Ubin Village / Main Jetty
• Please be on time. As we are running the trips back to back, we apologise that we cannot wait for late-comers and have to launch our kayaks on time and depart every hour.
• Do plan your ferry ride early and hop over to Pulau Ubin and take a leisurely 30 minutes walk to Jelutong Bridge.
• It is necessary that you provide your contact no. and email address so that we can acknowledge your booking and send you a booking confirmation.
• Cancellation: As this is a charity event, we seek your understanding that there will be no refunds once sold. In the event of bad weather, departure timings may be delayed.

The Big Coastal Clean Up - Kayak Expedition by Adventurepaddlers: 13 Jun (Sat) and 14 Jun (Sun)

The Big Coastal Clean Up is a worthy event organized by Adventurepaddlers where our heartland community can contribute to the preservation of Ubin's unique charms through a kayak expedition along its enchanting shoreline.

Marine litter is an environmental, economic, health and aesthetic problem. Promoting environmental awareness, this eco trip will allow you to observe, gather and properly dispose marine waste which will otherwise cause prolong habitat destruction to our ecosystem.

Come experience the kampung spirit. What better way than to cruise down the scenic waterway into the heart of our very own Ubin Island.

(Tongs and trash bags will be provided during the event.)

Ubin Bike Adventure with Asian Detours: 13 Jun (Sat)

Cycle back in time with our guides when you join us for the Ubin Bike Adventure for Ubin Day! Your journey takes you past rustic village houses where you might even interact with the friendly residents at Pulau Ubin! And we’re not just referring to the people!

Expect to see resident wildlife such as the Malayan water monitors, hornbills and wild boars, to name a few. For the observant ones, you might even notice a mischievous monkey in the trees staring curiously at you. There will be a number of planned stops where our guides will share some local history with you. Photography enthusiasts will also find many opportunities to snap pictures of the beautiful scenery at Pulau Ubin!

This experience is limited to 20 people only, so sign up now in order to reserve your slot! Children should be at least 7 years old and be able to ride a bike proficiently. Our guides reserve the rights to turn away participants whom they assess to be unsuitable for this experience.

Meeting Point: No.34 at Pulau Ubin. From the jetty, cross the boardwalk before taking a left turn. Walk on straight (past bike rental shops) until you see “Ubin Adventures” (No. 34) on your right. It is a house in white. Our guide will be waiting to receive you there.

Night Walk with the Vertebrate Study Group, Nature Society (Singapore): 13 Jun (Sat)

See Ubin and its inhabitants in a different light at night! As darkness descends on the island, wildlife emerges and takes over the night shift. Enjoy the breeze while we make our way along the kampung roads without street lights. There is lots to see and hear. Move quietly and there is chance to see and learn about snakes, civets, and perhaps even a glimpse of an owl or the greater mousedeer.

Bring a torch and water. A pair of binoculars will come in handy too.

Limited to 40 persons. Recommended age: 12 and up. Beginners are welcomed. You must be able to walk for 2 hours at a slow pace.

Bumboats for night activities (Just for Ubin Day!) Arrangements have been made for a bumboat (or two) to be available for your travel back to the mainland. They will charge $40 per boat ($3.30 per person for 12 persons) instead of $30 per boat. With only one or two bumboats, it may take a while to transport a large group back to the mainland. Thank you for your patience!

Natural Heritage Cycling Tour with Pedal Ubin: 14 Jun (Sun)

Are you clueless about Pulau Ubin, Singapore’s time capsule? How did Ubin get its name? Who was the German girl? Enjoy a bicycle ride in relative safety, and learn about all these and more, with cycling guides from the Toddycats, volunteer guides of the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum!

Cycle through the scenery of kampungs, plantations, forest, quarries and mangroves, stop for a coconut or two and listen to our guides as they share with you stories of Ubin’s wildlife, past heritage and present conservation efforts.

Participants must be at least 10 years old and know how to ride a bicycle. No fitness requirement needed. Participants are to arrange their own bicycle hire on Pulau Ubin. They may also bring their own bicycles from the mainland (more about cycling on Ubin).

Reforestation at Pulau Ubin with Ubin NParks: 14 Jun (Sun)

Be a part of the reforestation at Pulau Ubin. Come join us and give our forests a helping hand! Plant our native trees at Puaka East on Ubin Day.

Each group (maximum of 15 persons) will be allocated 8 trees to plant. Maximum 6 groups per session.

Some tips:

• Please be in comfortable attire and covered shoes. 
• Bring your water bottle and a hat. 
• Optional items like camera, sun screen lotion and insect repellent, snacks (if needed), etc are encouraged. 
• Have a good breakfast/lunch and take note that you might get dirty!

Chek Jawa Boardwalk Guided Tour with Ubin NParks volunteers: 14 Jun (Sun)

Join us for a tour to discover and learn about Chek Jawa's six ecosystems and the diverse array of animals that inhabits these unique habitats.

Guided tours are conducted to celebrate Ubin Day. The free guided tour will be cover the 1.1km boardwalk and Jejawi Tower with experienced guides.

Open to all ages, children under the age of 13 to be under parental/guardian guidance. Maximum 45 persons.

Kampong Tour with Ubin NParks volunteers: 13 Jun (Sat) and 14 Jun (Sun)

Take a walk with us to experience Ubin's wonderful natural and cultural heritage. The 2.2km trail takes about 2 hours to complete. The tour will start at the Ubin-HSBC Volunteer Hub and take you through the spice trees around Jelutong campsite, Butterfly Hill, Pekan Quarry, Sensory Trail Ponds, Kampong House, Old Bin Kiang School site, Toa Pek Kong Temple and end at the Wayang Stage.

You will hear about the use of spices in cooking and the interesting history of the different sites. Do you know what the Ubin-HSBC Volunteer Hub was in the 1970s? When was the Toa Pek Kong Temple built? If you would like to know, then this is an excellent introduction to the heritage of the island.

Open to all ages, children under the age of 13 to be under parental/guardian guidance. Maximum 45 participants.

Join us on an eco-adventure with Ubin Kayak to explore the sights and sounds of the mangroves at Pulau Ubin! What better way to celebrate Ubin Day than to appreciate the natural beauty of the island with our guides on a leisurely paddle.

Suitable for kids and adults, there is no prerequisite to join us on this adventure!

Expect to see wildlife such as hornbills, eagles, mudskippers, and even the family of wild boars that can be easily spotted just off the mangroves. Limited to 20 people only, sign up soon to reserve a slot with us on this experience!

Morning Wildlife Watch, a walk for kids by Cicada Tree Eco-Place: 14 Jun (Sun)

Rural Ubin also is home to a huge diversity of butterflies, dragonflies and other interesting bugs. At the nearby ponds and quarry, various water-loving wildlife may be encountered including monitor lizards, the waterhen, and a nesting colony of Grey Herons. If time permits, we may visit the mangrove habitat to look for Tree-climbing Crabs and the Giant Mudskipper.

Specially for kids from 5 years onward, and their families. Also suitable for the physically challenged. Single adults also welcome.

Evening Wildlife Watch, a walk for kids by Cicada Tree Eco-Place: 13 Jun (Sat)

As dusk falls on Ubin, shy and secretive nocturnal wildlife start to wake up. Our slow, easy walk on level paths and roadsides may still produce surprising sightings of native wildlife such as the Musang (Palm Civet Cat), Wild Pigs, and if really, really lucky, the Pangolin (Scaly Ant-eater)!

Several species of owls live on Ubin, so we may also get to see, or at least hear, the Spotted Wood-owl, Collared Scops-owl and the Brown Hawk-owl. Using a torchlight, we should be able to spot the Large-tailed Nightjar, another native nocturnal bird. Ubin has a good diversity of snakes and hopefully in the dark we will encounter some.

Specially for kids from 5 years onward, and their families. Also suitable for the physically challenged. Single adults also welcome.

Please bring your own torchlight and batteries.

In line with the Restore Ubin Mangroves (R.U.M) initiative, join us as we do a coastal clean-up to remove abandoned drift nets and marine debris that choke up the Ubin coastline. This will ensure that our wildlife continue to have the proper environment to thrive.

Evening family tour of the Chek Jawa boardwalk with the Naked Hermit Crabs: 13 Jun (Sat)

Specially for Ubin Day only, the Naked Hermit Crabs invite families and kids to join an evening walk at the Chek Jawa boardwalk! Usually, the Crabs hold their monthly free guided walks in the morning. Who knows what we might discover on an evening walk?!

There is always plenty to see on these trips, such as wild boars, insects, lots and lots of crabs, spiders, snakes, fishes, perhaps a jellyfish or two in the sea, and not forgetting the birds in the forests and flying high above us. Come explore Chek Jawa with the Crabs!

Learn all about the fascinating and beautiful creatures that live in Ubin's beaches and mangroves, as well as the dangers that trash poses to these animals. The ICCS booth will feature specimens of marine life, and will be accompanied by a mini-gameshow to show participants the extent of trash that lines our beaches! Willie Foo will lead this special Ubin Day birdwatching outing at Pulau Ubin, an island that never fails to surprise. There are always new things waiting to be discovered.

We will look out for island specialities including the Red Junglefowl, Oriental Pied Hornbill and the globally-endangered Straw-headed Bulbul.
